Arch Enemy – Rise of the Tyrant

October 5, 2008

I rarely listen to metal these days, not because it has become too heavy for me, but because most of the music that comes out sounds predictable, bland and in effect, since it tries to be serious, quite boring. I was tempted to check out this Arch Enemy album, as the praise of their melodic death metal style I’d occasionally come across made me curious long time ago actually. And you know, it’s really good. Who would say that, for instance, I’d think of a song titled “The Day You Died” as brilliant. It blends the energy of thrash, crushed by the heaviness of death metal with Angela Gossow’s amazing growl vocals, and intercepted by memorable melodic guitar leads.
