Vetiver – Tight Knit

Being in some fuss lately, I mostly spend time listening to old and familiar albums, however there has been something new that I found and keep returning to, and it’s this one from Vetiver, Tight Knit. They’re a folk/country-rock band, one dude named Andy Cabic writes all the songs, almost exclusively in a laid-back mid-tempo as if they were all created during some mythical slow summer afternoon. It goes from him being alone, occasionally touched by a distant slide guitar, to a full band dropping in for a short little celebration of simple life.
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – Cardinology

Ryan Adams, who seems to have become a writer as well, returns with his Cardinals once again with a new recording. By now you probably have a formed opinion of his ctrl.alt.country; I personally liked Heartbreaker and Love is Hell a lot, but the rest, including this one, don’t move me. Still, this album does have a few gems towards the end: Natural Ghost, Sink Ships and Evergreen.
Giant Sand – proVISIONS

Giant Sand have been making music for more than two decades without me ever noticing. Americana at it’s best, trasmitting sounds of human desires down the desert wind. All 13 songs deserve returning full attention.
Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Lie Down in the Light

This is the first time I listen to a Will Oldham album, and it seems like I’ve been missing a lot. The warm, captivating way this man brings us his spontaneous Americana music is amazing. Forget all your Ryan Adamses and Bright Eyes (well, except for fantastic I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning). This guy is like a modern day Bob Dylan telling us sometimes psychedelic stories about people and picking his guitar with an accidental band behind him in the evening.
Johnny Cash – At Folsom Prison

Possibly one of the best live albums ever. You can feel the electric energy between the audience and Cash and often it’s so emotional that it’s just stunning. It’s a great selection of songs too.
Raconteurs – Consolers Of The Lonely

To me, the most exciting moments in Jack White’s music are those when a track begins, you feel him there, he slowly begins to pick strings to slowly form a simple and powerful riff before blasting into a full jam, the sound of a man spontanously playing his rock’n'roll. On this album, the first two songs (Consoler Of The Lonely and single Salute Your Solution) are like that. In the rest, you will find a mixture of the sounds that have made up Icky Thump, last White Stripes‘ album, horns included, with some Americana style thrown in by the laid-back band.
