The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – s/t

It’s hard to give the band a name more indie than this; anyway, these people are a promising act and deserve your attention. A sweet semi-amateur interpretation of the late 80s, sounding like a cross between Vivian Girls, The Jesus and Marie Chain and The Meeting Places that’s non-stop running. Not particularly original, but sincere and fun it is.
Update: This album gets better and better after each listen. In my ears all the time – album of the month I say!
Nosound – Lightdark

Not currently in the right mood for this post-progressive ambiental rock sound coming from Italy, but I’m taking a note as I’m pretty sure I’ll be digging it at some point.
The Dark Knight

Here’s why this movie rocks:
- Joker. Absolutely phenomenal performance by Heath Ledger. The guy is convincingly creepy, sicko, amusing, seducing, philosophical. When he’s on the screen he totally shadows everybody else, including Batman. I remember an old Batman where he was played by Jack Nickolson with a plastic mask on his face. That was so lame… this guy actually looks and feels like somebody took a knife and made him those scars. Sadly, Heath is now dead.
- Batman is indeed the Dark Knight, “an outcast, making choices nobody else can make”. Eg he chooses to first save the only bright light in the city fighting against crime, his ex-girlfriend’s may-be husband, over her.
- Harvey Dent. I’ve had the feeling from the beginning that he’s going to turn into a villain. How he falls is a big story withing the movie.
- It’s directed by Chris Nolan, who made Memento.
- Batmobile is so badass that it makes a black Lamborghini look like a cheap joke.
- There is no Robin.
Duško Gojković and Kenny Clarke International Jazz Octet

A very rare 1961 recording from the collaboration of trumpet player Duško Gojković and Kenny Clarke. For me it’s great to hear Duško from the younger days for the first time, as I only saw him play nowadays when he’s old and not too enthusiastic.
Eagles Of Death Metal – Heart On

Queens über alles, but Eagles of Death Metal have their own rock’n'roll to deliver as well. Fusing stoner and classic rock with dicking around for their own pleasure – “nobody does me like I do”, yeah – it’s party rock that’s actually entertaining and for parties alright.
