The Gaslight Anthem – The 59 Sound

I have a friend who listens to them all the time now so I was like hmm let’s see. Turns out The Gaslight Anthem are probably the first good mainstream contemporary American rock band in … maybe this century?! The reason I’m saying this is because they make good songs; they’re passionate about their music and seemingly quite talented; they cannot be classified – they build on the small folk-rock tradition created by Dylan and Springsteen’s storytelling, their sound echoes the current post-hardcore-later-called-emo punk sounds in a timeless fashion. It’s very, very good stuff.
